HRH Tunku Naquiyuddin is the son of His Royal Highness Tuanku Ja’afar, the 10th King of Malaysia (Yang DiPertuan Agong) who was also the 10th Ruler of the State of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. A former diplomat, he is presently the Chairman of Sino Hua-An International Berhad (the first Malaysian cross border China listing) which was listed on the Malaysian Stock Exchange on 26th March 2007. He serves on the Board of other public companies such as Kian Joo Can Factory Bhd. and Noble Mineral Resources Ltd. in Australia.
Tunku Naquiyuddin is a keen environmentalist and was a Committee Member of the World Wide Fund for Nature (Malaysia). He is also the Pro Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysian (UKM) since 1st January 2004. He was invited to serve on the committee of the Business Council for Sustainable Development in 1992 and co-authored a book called “Changing Course: A Global Business Perspective on Development and the Environment” together with 48 other leading Chief Executives from various countries. This book was presented at the Earth Summit in 1992 to reflect businesses’ concern for the environment and their willingness to recognize their responsibilities and propose certain principles to guide commercial organizations in their daily encounter with environmental issues. Since then Sustainable Development has been adopted by most businesses as the best way forward in developing the world yet protect its degradation.
In November 2007, Y.A.M. Tunku Naquiyuddin was made a Royal Fellow of the LESTARI Institute in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in recognition of his work in the field of environment. In July 2008, Y.A.M. Tunku Naquiyuddin was made a Fellow of Aberystwyth University.
Y.A.M. Tunku Naquiyuddin is very charitable at heart. He founded the Yayasan Tunku Naquiyuddin (“YTN” – www.YTN-Foundation.org ) in 1994 whose objectives are to provide financial and developmental assistance to needy individuals and institutions as well as projects to improve teaching methodology especially in rural schools. More recently YTN expanded its scope to adopt the “Stop Dengue Mission” (www.Stop-Dengue.org), recognizing that mosquitoes have become more menacing as a result of the expanding recurrence of global warming. Todate the Foundation has given out more than RM3 million in the form of scholarships to poor students as well as donations for educational projects and to charitable causes such as homes for special children.
